What are you doing here?

I had an odd day yesterday. It started with a radio interview on 94.3 "the Rude awakening" that was fun. I was later told it was their most popular and commented show they have had since their inception.

That was neat.

Then the bus for Lamar! Alexander showed up at the downtown west polling location yesterday. It was sort of odd. To my knowledge there wasn't a planned stop.  No press or media was there. No supporters or rally. Lamar wasn't even there, but his son was.  They pulled in and a Bunch of his staff rolled out. Walked around for about 20 minutes and left. I didn't see them actually talk to any voters other then a few campaign workers who were at the polls anyway.

It was just sort of random.

Then Tom Humphrey was in town for his retirement party. While Tom is not completely retiring, I guess he is pulling off full time work on Capitol Hill. Its a shame. "The Dean" will be missed. I really like Tom, he has always been fair and will present both sides. You can talk to him like a regular person and he sticks to his word.  Something quite rare. He is the only reporter from the KNS I will even talk to. Sorry KNS, I have been burned too many times.

Well he did a mini interview that will be part of a bigger story on Sunday about my race.

More on Tom later....

Election Day.

We are looking for volunteers to work the election day polling locations on August 7th. No hard sell, but would entail wearing a t shirt, sitting at one of the locations, waving, holding a sign/literature, and most importantly, reporting back the polling numbers as they come in. There are 31 polling locations in the Knoxville area, so any help and time  is appreciated!
If you want to help out, feel free to send me a private message, comment on this status, or call Zach on his  cellphone (423-443-2710).
Thank you!

The Family Action council scored me a perfect 100% and even used my "Merry Christmas" bill as one of their scored votes.

Thought of the day.

People keep asking me about the polls.  As I sit at the polls, I get more thumbs up than middle fingers so I guess the polls are OK.

Poll pix.

Some fun people stop by at the Downtown Westpolling location.

Funny how that works

A few weeks ago I had tried to purchase advertising on the WBIR TV show, "Inside Tennessee".  I was refused at any price. I was told "We don't  do any political advertising during that show or "Meet the Press" . Nope. Never. Isn't accepted. Never, never, never.

I said I had seen it before.

"Nope, no way. No way at any price, for anyone. No no no. Never happened."

Of course today, right in the middle of  "Inside Tennessee" featuring chief justice Gary Wade as a guest,  a commercial to "re elect" Supreme Court justice Gary Wade aired.

Funny how that works. Some pigs are more equal than others.

Tricky editing? Different question???

In a recent story on second amendment rights and why I am the clearly better choice for election,  my opponent argues I did tricky editing of a video and that we were not speaking about gun rights and who can constitutionally regulate them but were instead were speaking about big government control.

Here is the full un edited video from channel 6 and Gene Paterson's "Tennessee this week". The question starts in segment 1 at the 7:15 mark. View it for yourself.

Gene Patterson is clearly asking about my bill allowing second amendment rights in parks without the locals being able to stop that right. My opponent argues the locals should be able to go against the constitution and stop your second amendment rights.

No tricky editing. No different question. Just one candidate supporting your constitutional freedoms and one candidate standing against them.

More guns = more jobs.

45 million dollar investment in Tennessee as Beretta moves their manufacturing to Tennessee because of our pro gun stance.

On the local level, one business owner sees a bump in business when he says he is gun friendly.

Liston lays it out.

Gun rights advocate Liston Matthews lays out the differences between myself and my opponent on the second amendment  and the constitution. My opponent cries foul.

Thought of the day.

Our president is more involved in what happens on the Ukrainian border then he is on the American border.

Thought of the day.

It seems those who cry about the poor in our country are the same people who want to import more of them like it will somehow make things better.

I have never had to do this in the past but it seems some less scrupled people don't want to do the hard work it takes to put up their own signs and would rather just take down mine.

$250.00 in cash will be paid to the person who gives information or proof of the person stealing my yard signs or big signs from the private property they currently sit on.

And yes, I will press charges.

Happy hunting!

The gloves come off.

The gloves were still off during the WBIR CH 10  "Inside Tennessee" debate as well as the WATE CH 6 "Tennessee this week"  debate.  The shows were pre recorded but will air this  Sunday morning at 9:30  for Inside Tennessee and noon for Tennessee this week.

New kiddie rules.

I had two TV interviews and one "forum" with the Knox County Republican Woman last night.  The TV interviews went as expected (more on that later) the interesting thing was the Republican woman's "forum"

Not that there were any big shots fired. It was odd because it was just the opposite.

My opponents campaign had demanded preconditions before he would show up.

He demanded that we couldn't even mention our opponents record. No mention of past statements and absolutely no videotaping or recording of the event.

If he can't handle the heat from me and stand up to his own statements how does he think he will work in Nashville?

Thought of the day.

I never understood the disconnect as the left screams "Businesses aren't people!.......but unions are!"

One yes, two no.

Went to a great reception hosting pro life legislators two nights ago. As you can imagine, the attention was mostly focused around support of the "Yes on one" movement. Yes on on is in support of amendment one to our state constitution to say (among other things) there is nothing in our state constitution that requires state support or funding of abortion in Tennessee.

As has happened in other states, many times courts decide abortion is not only a right but should be paid for by the state.

Crazy, I know.

Also up for a vote this November is amendment 2 to take away the people's right to vote on their judges.  A new movement has started to stop that constitutional amendment.

Thought of the day.

I find it ironic a place with the name "Target" won't allow guns in their stores

Thought of the day.

One survey I responded to asked me "On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being most conservative, what would you rate yourself?"

I said , "11"

Huff Po's take on my Drug testing bill

The Huffington Post comments on how my drug testing bill will work where others have failed.

ACLU threatens suit against my bill.

The ACLU is threatening a lawsuit over my drug testing for government benefits bill.  Sadly, they have not done the research on my bill as I have done previous to passage.

I say bring it on. Like most of their suits they bring in TN, I suspect another costly failure on their part.

Thought of the day.

The Supreme Court is not a fan of "benevolent" dictators.

And up we go again.

TCAP and student performance score continue to rise even in areas NOT Common Core compliant.

From the article....

More than 100,000 additional students are on grade level in math, and an additional 57,000 students are at or above grade level in science....

....Tennessee teachers fully implemented the state’s new standards in math and English this year, and student scores held steady in grades 3-8, with slight gains in most areas. This year’s results showed improvement in math and science areas, with biology and algebra proficiency rates continuing to rise. In 2011 only 31 percent of Algebra II students were on grade level, and this year nearly 50 percent more than 13,000 additional Tennessee students than in 2011 reached that mark.
High school English scores grew considerably over last year’s results in English I and English II. The students on grade level in English II increased nearly 4 percent this year.
Additionally, achievement gaps for minority students narrowed in math and reading at both the high school and 3-8 levels.

Drug testing starts today.

Many people have been waiting a long time for this.

My bill for drug testing those in Tennessee who want government benefits goes into full, state wide effect today.
